The sweet, salty air clung to their skin as they made their way down the beach. The sun hung low in sky, casting a golden glow across the sand. Hand in hand they walked as he did his best not to fidget with the trinket in his pocket.
As the sun sunk lower and lower they meandered up the coast, suddenly, ahead a couple stopped. They look down, and start to giggle. Then man drops to one knee. “Were in their shot!” Michelle said, noticing a photographer in the distance. Nick couldn’t believe his eyes, as if he wasn’t nervous enough, someone else just stole his spot!
Finally the couple departed, having finished their inside joke and Nick and Michelle continued down the beach. Finally coming to stop in the exact spot as the previous couple. There in the sand was a heart, asking for her hand in marriage. And this time, it wasn’t a joke. He pulled the ring from his pocket, and in that moment even the waves held their breath.
The world seemed to glow even brighter, as the love of her life got down on one knee and the kiss that the waves gave to the sand was just a little bit softer as she said yes to the man of her dreams. The photographer slowly made her way down to the couple. Hardly able to contain her own excitement. Her cousin had just gotten engaged!
In the moments that followed, no one thought about hair that wasn’t done, or makeup that wasn’t on. No one worried about the sun sinking behind the water or the other couple on the beach. Because in that moment, they were the only two people on earth. Lost in each other, about to take the biggest step of their lives, together. And no one looked more beautiful and happy than them. They held each other as the sun disappeared behind the waves, and all she could think about was all of his joy, laughter and love that seemed as endless as the waves.
In that moment the world was still, and beautiful, and perfect. And they were perfect.
With a proposal like that I knew these two were going to be amazing. And after finally getting to meet up in Ouray I can’t wait for their July cabin wedding. Nick and Michelle are so easy going, and up for anything that I really wish they lived just a little bit closer. Kansas is awfully far away. I am so thankful to have the chance to share in their laughter and can’t wait to do it all again.
