We slid into the car a flash lit up the sky over the monument. I said a little prayer that the rain would hold out just long enough. As photographers we walk a fine line with mother nature. Clouds are our best friends, a little Beyonce wind here and there is a dream come true. But often, too much of a good thing spells disaster.
It looked so cold, so blustery, but it wasn’t wet out yet. There was hope.
And then, I saw them. Smiles beaming. Looking absolutely stunning. I knew, I just knew that regardless of what the weather had in store for us. It was going to be an amazing session.
It was as if it was meant to be. The clouds held out. A small breeze rushed through the trees as Julie and Brandon swayed. But honestly, I don’t think they would have noticed even if the heavens did open up. Every time they looked at each other it was as if they were seeing the whole world for the first time. Everything they needed they found in each others’ eyes.
Even as the sky turned dark and we headed into the storm, all Julie could say was that perhaps it was meant to be.
As the drops hit our windshield faster than the wipers could keep up, their smile and excitement never wavered. Nothing could stop these two. And in the end, it was nothing short of EPIC!
The wind started whipping through the brush. The rain came down even harder and still, they clung to each other smiling, dancing, and loving every moment they got to spend in each others arms. Every look, every kiss was just as sweet as when the weather was perfect. They drew in closer as the wind whipped through their hair.
And in that moment, i knew she was right. They were just meant to be.
Because when you find that person who will not only try to shield you from the storm, but dance in the rain with you. It is just meant to be. There is no other way to put it.
Julie and Brandon, thank you so much for being so amazing! And really, for just being you. I can’t think of two better people to spend this blustry evening with. And I can’t wait for your next adventure this July!
Until then, keep dancing.
